What? Gmail to the rescue? Again?
November 20, 2008

I use Goolge Chat once in a while and I’ve not been overly impressed. It gets the job done, but it seemed to be seriously lacking behind some of the other IM applications I’m familiar with. I think it is fair to say that Google no longer lags behind some of the other IM apps because now Google Chat has Video and Voice!
I’m still not ready to let go of Skype as it is much more robust with a plethora of useful features, but I’m pretty impressed with this new addition to Gmail. Google Chat is cross platform and the video quality is extremely good.
Take a look at this cool new feature – I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

yes, gmail chat has some room to grow. i was very impressed with its quality and the fact there wasn’t a large program to download.
here are my requests:
1. require no download
2. it gets integrated with google docs
3. it allows for multi-point vc’s
with 1-3 i might give up my skype

I’d like to add one more: file transfer similar to Skype. If Google had all four of these capabilities then I’d give up Skype for sure.
What if we had all four of these additions – might we also have conversations about the efficacy of our K-20 VC network?
What about security and privacy?

hmm, i am thinking if it is built into Google Docs, there would be less need for file transfer. but there are times when i might want to send a picture or something. while we are dreaming let us add desktop conferencing
.
we could defiantly stop buying all that expensive K20 equipment if our dreams were met.
